Defining reference milestones

Create the stages shared by all your projects and follow them consistently.

1 min read updated October 2026

Reference milestones are stages shared by all the organisation's projects: "Kick-off", "Steering committee", "Acceptance testing", "Closure"… They let you follow every project with the same markers.

Creating a reference milestone

  1. 1
Open the Admin Console, then Reference milestones.
  2. 2
Add a milestone and name it.
  3. 3
It becomes available on all the organisation's projects.

Using them in a project

In projects, reference milestones are highlighted with a halo in the Gantt chart, and followed in the dashboard's Milestones widget with a late badge if the deadline has passed.

Good to know: well-chosen reference milestones make it easier to compare projects in portfolios: each one moves through the same stages.

Frequently asked questions

Can I rename a reference milestone?

Yes, the new name applies to all the projects that use it.

How many reference milestones should I create?

Few: a handful of structuring stages is enough. Too many milestones drown the information.
