Task statuses

Understand task statuses, create new ones and track the progress of parent tasks automatically.

A task's status shows where it stands. It is used to organise the Kanban board, to filter lists and to calculate project progress.

The three main categories

Each status belongs to one of three categories, used for progress calculations:

To do

The task is planned but has not started yet.

In progress

The task is under way.

Done

The task is finished: it counts as completed in the progress.

Creating a custom status

Each project can have its own statuses, suited to the way it works (for example "In review" or "Waiting for client"):

  1. 1
    Open the project's Kanban view.
  2. 2
Add a column, or use a task's status list.
  3. 3
Enter the name of the new status and attach it to its category (To do, In progress or Done).

You can then reorder the Kanban columns by drag and drop.

Progress calculated automatically

When a task contains subtasks, its progress is calculated from them: as soon as a subtask moves to "Done", the parent task's progress is updated. The same applies to the project's overall progress.

Good to know: a status's category matters more than its name. A "Validated" status attached to the Done category is counted as completed.

Frequently asked questions

Are custom statuses shared between projects?

No, each project has its own statuses. To reuse the same setup, create a project template that contains them.

Can I delete a status used by tasks?

First change the status of the tasks concerned, then delete the status you no longer need.
